Jersey City Rally to Protest US Intervention in Venezuela

On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, community groups and leaders gathered at a rally titled “No War on Venezuela / ¡No a la guerra contra Venezuela!” to protest the recent U.S. intervention in Venezuela and the reported capture of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro. The event was held at Riverview Fisk Park, a prime location due to its proximity to the Venezuelan communities of both Jersey City and Union City. Around 100 people attended in support of the movement, according to the organizers.

The rally’s main organizer was the North New Jersey Democratic Socialist Party (North NJDSA), with the main speaker being the North NJDSA’s treasurer, Eric Cortés?Kopp. A Cuban American himself, he demanded an end to U.S. military interference in Latin American affairs and across the globe. “Our main demand was an end to U.S. violence around the world,” he stated. “We’ve seen this film played out before in Iraq and other Latin American countries. It’s always the administration that works to invade these countries for economic gain such as those involving oil and gold.” Further demands included the return of President Maduro from U.S. custody in New York City to Venezuela. The North NJDSA is currently partnered with the NYCDSA for the release of President Maduro.

Other organizations that partnered with this event were CeaseFire Now NJ, the NJ People’s Organization for Progress (NJPOP), Cosecha NJ, NJ Peace Action, the NJ Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSLNJ), and the Palestinian Youth Movement to show their support. Speakers included Larry Adams from NJPOP and Meera Jaffery from CeaseFire Now. Local politicians such as Ward B Councilperson Joel Brooks, Ward D Councilperson Jake Ephros, and Ward E Councilperson Eleana Little also attended.

“This is not about democracy or human rights,” organizers said in a joint statement. “It is about U.S. corporations and geopolitical control. We are mobilizing to demand an end to war, sanctions, and interference in Venezuela and across the Global South.”

To continue their work, the NJDSA plans to keep working with their coalition partners, combat further U.S. military violence by holding discussions to raise awareness of U.S. intervention, and continue rallying against the current administration’s actions on Venezuela.
