A coalition of community organizations plans to hold a public forum opportunity for the local community to become more acquainted with candidates running for Jersey City’s Board of Education in the November 5th General Election.

The Tuesday, October 8th event will take place from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Franklin L. Williams School – MS 7, 222 Laidlaw Avenue. Among the coalition’s organization members include the following:

  • Heights Community Organization
  • Riverview Neighborhood Association
  • Washington Park Association of Hudson County
  • The Knitty Gritty JC Social Club
  • Journal Square Community Association
  • Leonard Gordon Park Conservancy
  • Pershing Field Neighborhood Association
  • JC Heights Parents
  • Sgt. Anthony Park Neighborhood Association
  • PS 28 PTA Board
  • JC Policy Circle

Seven out of eight of the candidates will be present, representing two slates and two independents. Brigid D’Souza, a former Assistant Professor at Saint Peter’s University and licensed CPA writer for the Civic Parent blog, will provide an overview of the Board and its role and responsibilities. Moderators will guide conversations driven by key topics such as school development, budget, and community engagement. Candidates will also answer questions concerning other critical issues facing the Jersey City Public School system.

“This forum is a critical opportunity for residents to engage with the candidates and learn about their vision for our public schools,” stated Katie Brennan of the Journal Square Neighborhood Association.

“We encourage everyone to attend and participate in this important discussion.”

Pre-forum survey questions are available to allow attendees to submit questions beforehand. The event will also be available for live-stream viewing on Facebook.
