The Jersey City Arts Council has named Deonté Griffin-Quick as its new Executive Director, effective July 1, 2025. A nationally recognized and award-winning arts administrator, Griffin-Quick brings a strong background in cultural strategy, nonprofit leadership, and equity-focused community work.

Griffin-Quick, a New Jersey native, most recently served as the inaugural Managing Director of External Affairs at Artist Communities Alliance, an international service organization for artist residencies. He previously led statewide programming as Director of Programs and Services at New Jersey Theatre Alliance. In 2019, he founded the New Jersey Arts and Culture Administrators of Color Network, which now supports more than 300 cultural professionals across the state.

“We are thrilled to welcome Deonté Griffin-Quick,” said Amy Elise de Jong, Board Chair of JCAC. “His visionary leadership, deep ties to New Jersey’s arts ecosystem, and commitment to equity and collaboration will strengthen our mission to protect, strengthen, and promote the arts in Jersey City.”

In the past four years, the Jersey City Arts Council has given about $500,000 to artists and organizations through programs like the Antenna Grant for Women in the Arts, COVID Relief Grants, the Jersey City Artist Relief Fund, and the Individual Artist Fellowship program in partnership with the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs.

“Jersey City is home to a vibrant and ever-evolving creative community,” said Griffin-Quick. “I am honored to lead JCAC in its role as a catalyst for cultural vitality. Together, we will champion artists, build strong partnerships, and ensure the arts remain central to the city’s future.”

As Executive Director, Griffin-Quick will work with the board on a new strategic plan, develop programs and advocacy efforts, and foster collaborations that keep culture and creativity at the heart of Jersey City’s identity.
