Hudson County Honors Legendary Tennis Coach William “Bill” Broderick
The Hudson County Board of County Commissioners has formally recognized the exceptional contributions of tennis coach William “Bill” Broderick by renaming the tennis courts in Bayonne’s Hudson County Park the William “Bill” Broderick Tennis Court. The dedication celebrates his decades of service to the community and his impact on tennis in Hudson County.
Broderick began his career at Bayonne High School in 1970 as a physical education teacher. In 1977, he founded the girls’ tennis program, coaching them until 1983 and again from 1997 to 2001. During his tenure, Broderick led the girls’ team to multiple successes, including county championships in 1979, 1999, 2000, and 2001.
In the spring of 1978, Broderick expanded his influence by taking over the boys’ tennis program. His leadership proved equally impactful, guiding the boys to six consecutive county titles between 2007 and 2012 and securing county championships in 15 of his 20 years coaching.
