Hudson County Awards $150,000 Contract for Bus Rapid Transit Feasibility Study Along JFK Boulevard
Hudson County Executive Craig Guy announced Wednesday the Board of County Commissioners unanimously voted to award a contract to transportation consulting firm Nelson/Nygaard to conduct a Bus Rapid Transit feasibility study along John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Bayonne and Jersey City.
The Board of County Commissioners previously approved $150,000 from the Capital Improvement Fund to support the study. The project has a one-year term with an expected nine-month work schedule and a final draft anticipated in early 2027.
“This is a major step forward in delivering on our Vision Zero commitments,” said Guy, who also serves as Chairman of the County’s Vision Zero Task Force. “This study is a meaningful step to make Hudson County a safer, more connected place for everyone.”
Nelson/Nygaard, whose prior work in the region includes Hoboken’s Vision Zero Action Plan, will be supported by engineering firm TYLin. The study will review existing roadway and transit conditions, conduct traffic modeling, develop recommendations for priority corridors, and provide guidance on funding prospects.
Hudson County will coordinate with NJ Transit to align the study with future transit operations. The Department of Planning and Business Opportunity will manage the project in coordination with the Division of Engineering.
The county said it plans to provide public engagement opportunities at multiple stages of the process, including virtual and in-person options.
