Homicide Unit Investigating Fatal Shooting Near Orient Avenue and MLK Drive

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Jersey City on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello announced.

According to authorities, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired on Orient Avenue near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Responding officers found an injured man, later identified as 38-year-old Jenardo Tejada of Jersey City, with apparent gunshot wounds. He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

During the response, a second victim, a 45-year-old man from Jersey City, was found on Jackson Square with an apparent gunshot wound.

The cause and manner of death are pending with the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. No arrests have been made at this time.
