Guttenberg Mourns Officer Jesus Garcia, Who Passed After ALS Battle

Police Officer Jesus “Chuchi” Garcia, a veteran member of the Guttenberg Police Department, died peacefully at home on November 22, 2025, after a prolonged battle with ALS. He was 48.

Garcia served both the Fairview and Guttenberg communities during his career. He held roles as a police officer, commander of the department’s Honor Guard, and a member of the Special Response Team.

According to a statement from the North Bergen Police Department, Garcia’s “courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty set the highest standard for all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.” He was also described as a close friend and relative to several North Bergen officers.

Diagnosed with ALS in 2021, Garcia was remembered for his resilience and strength throughout his illness. The Guttenberg Police Department called him “a great coworker, a leader, a mentor, a loving husband, father, and, most importantly, an outstanding human being.”

Garcia is survived by his wife Marlene and daughter Lauren.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Barquin Funeral Home, located at 7101 Broadway, Guttenberg, New Jersey.
