The boil water advisory issued for Hoboken residents on September 9 has been lifted, following emergency repairs to a water main and successful post-repair water quality testing.

According to city officials, the advisory was enacted as a precaution due to pressure loss during repairs, which had the potential to compromise water quality. Subsequent testing confirmed that the water now meets all regulatory standards, and residents are no longer required to boil tap water before consumption.

Veolia, the city’s water service provider, strongly recommends residents take the following measures to ensure water safety within their homes and buildings:

  • Run water faucets for three to five minutes to flush interior plumbing and service connections.
Empty and clean automatic ice makers and water chillers.
  • Drain and refill hot water heaters if set below 113 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Regenerate or follow manufacturer-recommended procedures for water softeners or cartridge filters.
  • Drain and refill water reservoirs in tall buildings, where applicable.
