Arturo Gatti Jr., Son of Boxing Champion, Dies at 17

Arturo Gatti Jr., son of late boxing champion Arturo “Thunder” Gatti, has died at the age of 17, according to a person close to the family. He was reportedly found in his room earlier this week. No official cause of death has been released.
Gatti Jr. was the only child of Amanda Rodrigues and Arturo Gatti, the Canadian-born boxer whose career included world titles in two weight classes and memorable bouts that earned him a place in the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Gatti Sr. died in 2009 at age 37, under circumstances that remain publicly disputed.
In a 2025 interview with HudPost, Gatti Jr. spoke about honoring his father’s legacy, training at Jersey City’s Ringside Boxing Gym, and his aspirations in the sport. Both he and his father had trained at the same gym.
The teenager had begun developing his skills in amateur boxing, and his potential had drawn attention from followers of the sport such as Mike Tyson.
Social media posts from friends, family, and figures in boxing have expressed condolences and remembered Gatti Jr. for his discipline, respect for the sport, and ties to one of boxing’s most recognizable names.
