Jerry Walker, a former Seton Hall basketball standout and current Hudson County Commissioner, secured the Democratic nomination for State Assembly in the 31st Legislative District, based on unofficial results from Tuesday’s primary election.

Raised in Jersey City’s Marion section, Walker gained national recognition as a key player on Seton Hall’s 1989 NCAA Final Four team. He later founded a nonprofit focused on youth development and has served multiple terms on the Hudson County Board of Commissioners.

During his election night remarks, Walker acknowledged the personal tone of the campaign and referenced a controversial video that depicted him with darkened skin and an altered photo showing him wearing a Rolex watch. He responded to the imagery by saying, “I think I should buy me a Rolex watch.”

Walker also thanked his family and supporters. “I want to thank each and every one of you guys. I also want to thank my family. My wife is over there. My son, he just graduated this week. So for the long weekend, thank you. Chase, yes.”

Looking ahead, he called on Democrats to stay focused. “The job is not done. Okay, we still have an election to go on in November. And we want to wipe the Republicans out.”

Walker concluded his remarks with a direct message: “I’m happy to say this. Steven Fulop. You lost.”
