Bayonne Mourns Loss of Police Officer Joseph Giordano

The Bayonne Police Department, along with family, friends, and community members, is mourning the loss of Officer Joseph “Joe” Giordano, who died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Giordano served the Bayonne community as a police officer for the past decade. Before joining the department, he worked as a physical education and health teacher in the Newark Public Schools, coached basketball, and volunteered with Bayonne Little League.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the Bayonne Police Department remembered Giordano as more than a colleague.

“There are no words to truly express the sadness we feel,” the department wrote. “Joe was more than a friend and colleague, he was family. His kindness, laughter, unwavering loyalty, and the positive impact he had on everyone around him will not be forgotten.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been created to support Giordano’s family, with organizers saying the donations will provide support and stability during a difficult time.

The family has also asked that memorial donations be made to the Bayonne Policeman’s Benevolent Association, Local 7, at PO Box 1303, Bayonne, NJ 07002, with the note “in memory of Joseph Giordano.”
