Elementary School Security Guard Arrested in North Bergen Child Luring Sting

A Newark man who told investigators he works as an elementary school security guard has been arrested following an investigation into the attempted luring of a person he believed to be a 13-year-old child for sexual activity, North Bergen Police Chief Robert J. Farley Jr. announced.

On Thursday, July 16, 2026, officers from the North Bergen Police Department arrested Jeffrey B. Sanders of Newark. According to police, at approximately 11:05 p.m., officers responded to a residential complex after receiving a report of an individual who had arrived to meet a juvenile.

The arrest followed a sting by Predator Poachers, a private group that confronted Sanders on camera after one of its decoys posed as a 13-year-old girl online. Video of the confrontation was later shared publicly on social media. Police said they were provided with electronic communications and other digital evidence indicating Sanders had communicated with the decoy for several weeks before traveling to North Bergen for a sexual encounter.

According to police, Sanders admitted after being advised of his Miranda rights that he traveled to North Bergen to meet the person he believed was a 13-year-old girl. Police said he also admitted to sending sexually explicit material and told investigators he was employed as a security guard for the Newark Board of Education, assigned to an elementary school.

Police said Sanders made statements regarding the possession of suspected child sexual abuse material, prompting additional investigative actions.

Sanders was charged with multiple offenses, including luring or enticing a child, attempted sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the North Bergen Police Department at 201-392-2141. Anonymous tips may be submitted by email at tips@northbergenpd.com.
