Armed Standoff in Secaucus Ends With SWAT Deployment, Officer Injured

A parolee was taken into custody after an hours-long armed standoff in Secaucus that ended with a SWAT team deploying gas and left one officer injured, police said.
The standoff began around 9:46 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, when New Jersey State Parole officers requested help carrying out an arrest warrant at a home on Paterson Plank Road. According to police, the parolee, identified as Sahil Ram, armed himself with a knife and barricaded himself inside the residence to avoid being arrested.
Secaucus officers set up a perimeter, and the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team was called to the scene. During the standoff, police said, the man made verbal threats, displayed knives, and threw knives at officers from a second-floor window.
Officers spent hours trying to de-escalate the situation and negotiate his surrender, police said, but those efforts were unsuccessful. The SWAT team then deployed gas into the apartment, which led to the man surrendering.
A SWAT team member was injured just before the surrender when the man struck the officer with a blunt object, according to police.
Ram faces charges in connection with the incident. As with any arrest, he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
