Officials Break Ground on New Pavilion at Mercer Park

Hudson County officials broke ground on a new pavilion at Mercer Park in Bayonne, marking the start of a project designed to expand public gathering space and improve park infrastructure.
Hudson County Executive Craig Guy, Board of County Commissioners Chairman Anthony L. Romano, and Commissioner Jerry Walker (D-3) led the ceremony on Jan. 12, joined by Jersey City Councilwoman Denise Ridley (Ward A) and Hudson County Register Jeffrey Dublin. The pavilion will include space for concession stands and new bathrooms to support events and provide additional amenities for park users.
“This pavilion is more than a structure; it’s a gathering place where families and neighbors can come together, celebrate, and create lasting memories,” said Guy. “I am especially proud that this project will be built by MDW Construction Service, a minority-owned contractor rooted right here in our community. This effort represents a meaningful investment in the neighborhood and a defining accomplishment for Commissioner Jerry Walker.”
“Parks are essential to the quality of life in Hudson County. By expanding Mercer Park with this pavilion, we are ensuring that all residents have a vibrant, accessible space to connect, play, and enjoy the outdoors,” said Romano.
“From the start, I heard from so many residents in my district about the need for a community space in Mercer Park,” said Walker. “This pavilion is a direct result of listening to constituents, pushing for resources, and making sure every voice in our community is heard.”
The pavilion is part of Hudson County’s broader effort to improve public spaces. Mercer Park, located along the Jersey City–Bayonne border, spans six-and-a-half acres and includes walkways, basketball courts, a playground, and a dual-use field for youth sports.
