Mayor Steven M. Fulop, Senator Angela McKnight, and Councilwoman Denise Ridley announced a $1 million investment to establish the Bayside Community Center in Ward A, marking the first site in Jersey City’s plan to build a community center in each ward.

The funding, secured by Senator McKnight through the American Rescue Plan, will support design and planning for the new facility, located within Bayside Park in the Greenville neighborhood. The Bayside Community Center will expand access to educational, recreational, and cultural services and is part of a broader initiative to enhance neighborhood infrastructure and opportunities.

“With this $1 million investment, we are moving forward with this community-driven project to provide all residents with access to safe spaces and vital programs that support health, education, and opportunity,” said Mayor Fulop.

Design plans will be informed by ongoing community engagement. An initial public meeting was held in 2025, with additional sessions scheduled for 2026 to incorporate resident feedback. The facility will feature flexible space for youth programs, fitness activities, cultural events, and community services.

“For years, residents have called for more accessible, high-quality community spaces,” said Councilwoman Ridley. “This brings us closer to delivering a center in Ward A that truly serves the people who live here and strengthens the fabric of our neighborhood.”

Senator McKnight emphasized the federal grant’s role in supporting long-term neighborhood recovery.

“Securing this funding for the Bayside Community Center ensures that federal resources are being used where they matter most by creating a permanent space for connection, learning, and support in a neighborhood that deserves it,” said McKnight.

The Bayside project advances goals outlined in the 2022 Jersey City Master Plan, which prioritizes expanded access to recreation and community facilities. Each center will be operated jointly by the Department of Recreation and Youth Development and the Jersey City Free Public Library.
