The stands at Bruin Stadium were filled with cheering supporters on Wednesday, June 26, as the Class of 2024 gathered on the field for their graduation ceremony from North Bergen High School.

Mayor Nicholas Sacco congratulated the graduates and shared advice from his own academic journey. “I would like to congratulate each and every one of the seniors who graduated today from North Bergen High School. They overcame many trials and tribulations during their years as a Bruin and we are proud of them! We wish you all good luck in the future, no matter what path you choose we know it will be a bright one!” he said.

Joining the mayor in offering support and encouragement were NBHS Principal Richard Locricchio, Schools Superintendent Dr. George Solter, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Allen Pascual.

This year’s valedictorian, Dev Patel, and salutatorian, Omer Ashraf, were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements. The ceremony’s emcees were Lizbeth Rojas Cabrera and Miranda Viscaino. Abigail Villalta led the salute to the flag, and the advanced chorus performed the National Anthem. Dr. Mohamed Moussa from the North Hudson Islamic Education Center provided the invocation, setting a reflective tone for the event.

Following the invocation, the diplomas were awarded, and a special presentation of flowers took place. The ceremony concluded with a benediction from Father Peter Wehrle of Our Lady of The Lake Parish Church.

The event ended with the traditional tossing of caps into the air, after which families gathered in the park for hugs, photos, and celebration. The graduation ceremony was a significant milestone for the students and their families, highlighting the strong community spirit of North Bergen.
