The New Jersey City University (NJCU) Women’s Basketball team added another title to their achievements, securing their third New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship in the past four years. The victory came against the top-seeded The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) with a final score of 65-52 on February 23, 2024.

The Gothic Knights, who were the No. 2 seed in the NJAC Tournament, initially faced a deficit but recovered strongly in the first quarter. This win marks an important milestone for NJCU, establishing the women’s basketball team as the first in the university’s athletic history to win three conference championships within a four-year period.

Key contributions came from All-America senior guard Damaris Rodriguez, recently named NJAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, who scored a game-high 26 points. Sophomore guard Tahirah Kelley also played a crucial role in the win with 17 points.

This championship win ensures NJCU’s participation in the NCAA Division III Tournament, their second appearance in program history. The team, now with an overall record of 19-8 and a 14-4 record in the NJAC, awaits the announcement of their opponent in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
