TADA! Youth Theater, a Drama Desk award-winning nonprofit youth theater, is set to present its original musical, “Princess Phooey,” from February 10th to February 26th at its Manhattan location. The production features Jersey City and Hoboken cast members from TADA!’s Resident Youth Ensemble (RYET).

“Princess Phooey” is a unique take on the fairy tale genre, following the story of a princess who rejects traditional gender roles and prefers to run around with the chambermaids and stable boys. The musical features book and lyrics by Lisa Diana Shapiro and music by Eric Rockwell, and is performed by members of RYET.

Jersey City cast members include Sophia Donath as Splenda, Hans Gabriel Olano as Tertius, Lukas Mufute as Sixtamus, and Emma Origenes as Dot. Emma, who is from Jersey City and is 10 years old, said of her experience at TADA!, “I have made new friends and everyone is very supportive and caring. I am also learning to develop my acting, singing and dancing talents.”

Hoboken cast member Max Suspitsyn, also 10 years old, said of TADA!, “This is my first year, and there are so many really cool activities. TADA! helps you learn new techniques to get better and improve on stage and beyond.”

TADA! is committed to making its productions accessible to all and offers a limited number of Pay What You Can tickets for each performance starting at $1, as well as group sales for nonprofit organizations at $10. The theater offers a free, year-round, pre-professional training and positive youth development program for members of RYET, as well as musical theater classes and residencies in NYC schools and community centers.
