Juvenile Arrested in Fatal Shooting of 15-Year-Old Cianna Lee in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY – A 16-year-old male from Jersey City has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Cianna Lee, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced. The incident occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2025, in Jersey City.

The suspect, whose identity remains confidential due to his juvenile status, faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated assault. He is also charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, both second-degree offenses. As the case involves a juvenile, additional details have not been released.

Authorities responded to reports of a shooting near Martin Luther King Drive and Union Street shortly after 11:00 p.m. on January 18. Upon arrival, Jersey City police found two female victims with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle on Oak Street.

Cianna Lee, a 15-year-old Jersey City resident, was transported to Jersey City Medical Center. Despite medical efforts, she was pronounced dead shortly after 1:20 a.m. on January 19. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed her cause of death as a gunshot wound and ruled it a homicide. The second victim, a 37-year-old relative of Lee, was treated at the same hospital for a non-fatal gunshot wound.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for their work in investigating and apprehending the suspect.

The charges are accusations, and the accused juvenile is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. No further details have been released, as juvenile cases are confidential.
