Menendez Wins Third Term in Congress

Congressman Rob Menendez won a third term representing New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District on Tuesday, easily beating three independent challengers.

In Hudson County, Menendez received 81,314 votes, or about 87%, with nearly 98% of districts reporting, according to unofficial results from the Hudson County Clerk. Independents Craig Honts received 4,557 votes, Aristotle Eliopoulos 4,322 and Da’Shone Hughey 2,610. No Republican was on the ballot.

The district includes parts of Hudson County, Newark and Elizabeth.

“To voters across Hudson, Essex, and Union Counties: thank you for putting your trust in me to meet this moment with the urgency it requires,” Menendez said in a statement Tuesday night.

His toughest race came in June, when he beat progressive challenger Mussab Ali, a former Jersey City Board of Education president, in the Democratic primary. Menendez took about 68% of the Hudson County vote to Ali’s 32%, as HudPost reported.

Menendez, the son of former U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, was first elected to Congress in 2022. He said Democrats had won a majority in the U.S. House and that he would focus on “delivering for working families,” bringing federal money home and lowering costs.
