Jersey City’s Five Corners Library to Reopen

The Five Corners branch of the Jersey City Free Public Library will reopen Tuesday, Oct. 13, after a monthslong closure to fix its heating and cooling system.
The Journal Square branch closed earlier this year when its HVAC system failed. Repairs have restored cooling and prepared the heating system for winter, allowing the branch to resume its regular hours and programming while the city evaluates the building’s longer-term needs.
During the closure, the library kept serving the neighborhood through its Bookmobile and regular updates to residents.
“Five Corners Library is an essential institution for the Journal Square community,” said Mayor James Solomon. “From the moment my administration learned of its closing, we have been working to get it reopened.”
Councilman Tom Zuppa, who represents Ward C, called the branch a cultural and educational hub for local families. “For many, including me, it’s the place that sparked a lifelong love of reading,” he said.
City and library officials said the reopening is a first step. The next phase is a feasibility study of the building’s infrastructure, mechanical systems, accessibility and space needs, which will guide decisions on long-term investments.
Ahead of the reopening, the library will host a celebration Saturday, Oct. 10, from noon to 4 p.m., with cultural performances, community activities and information on library services.
