Secaucus University Hospital First in NY:NJ to Use New Back Pain Technology

Secaucus University Hospital has become the first facility in the New York and New Jersey area to use a new technology for treating chronic low back pain, the hospital announced.

Dr. Johnson Ho performed a two-level basivertebral nerve ablation using Medtronic’s new ViaVerte Basivertebral Nerve Ablation System, marking the first use of the technology in the region.

The minimally invasive procedure uses targeted heat to disable pain-sensing nerves, with the goal of providing lasting relief for patients with chronic low back pain originating from damaged vertebral endplates. The hospital said it offers another option for patients whose chronic low back pain has not improved with other treatments.

The procedure is the latest addition to the hospital’s care offerings. Last week, Hudson Regional Health’s Ophthalmology Medical Director, Dr. Brett Bielory, performed Hudson County’s first robotic laser cataract surgery at Secaucus University Hospital. In 2018, the hospital became the first in the New York tri-state area to use the ExcelsiusGPS system for robotic-assisted spine procedures.

Patients living with chronic low back pain can schedule an appointment with Ho or with Hudson Regional Health’s other pain management services by calling 201-392-3278.
