University Senate Honors NJCU President with Official Proclamation

New Jersey City University (NJCU) President Andrés Acebo was formally honored by the University Senate with an official proclamation recognizing his leadership during a transformative and challenging period in the institution’s history.

The proclamation, unanimously approved by the NJCU Senate, commends Acebo for his “exemplary leadership, steadfast support, and guiding presence” amid operational strain and institutional uncertainty. The document describes his tenure as marked by “integrity, resolve, compassion, and clarity of purpose.”

Signed by Senate President Dr. John Donnellan and Senate Vice President Dr. Hanae Haouari, the proclamation notes Acebo’s commitment to transparency, shared governance, and long-term institutional stability. It also highlights his efforts to ensure that the voices of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners were respected and included during critical moments.

In a statement following the presentation, Acebo expressed deep appreciation, calling the gesture “the most meaningful professional recognition” he has received. “If I have proven, even in a small way, to have set a tone and expectation of respect, civility, and care, then I have honored the privilege of this immense responsibility,” Acebo said.
