Guttenberg Honors Teen Athlete for Historic Tennis Record

Eighteen-year-old Laura Galeano Arcila was formally recognized by Mayor Wayne Zitt and the Guttenberg Town Council for becoming the first athlete to win four consecutive Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic League (HCIAL) Girls’ Tennis First Singles Championships.

The ceremony took place on Jan. 5 at the Gerald R. Drasheff Community Center, where Galeano Arcila was presented with a plaque in front of family members and attendees from the local community.

A student at County Prep High School, Galeano Arcila won the HCIAL First Singles title in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Her record-setting performance earned praise from local officials for her discipline and consistency across all four seasons of competition.

“Your dedication, excellence, and competitive spirit have made history and brought great pride to your school and community. Congratulations on this remarkable accomplishment!” the plaque read.

The Town of Guttenberg commemorated her achievement as both a personal milestone and a historic first in the county’s high school tennis history.
