Gotham FC Aims for Second Title in Three Years at NWSL Championship

Gotham FC will play for its second National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) title in three years on Saturday, facing the Washington Spirit at PayPal Park in the 2025 NWSL Championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, with CBS broadcasting the match nationally.
The game marks the 44th all-time meeting between the clubs, the most between any two teams in league history. Gotham enters the final as the No. 8 seed following a historic postseason run, including two stoppage-time victories on the road. In the opening round, Katie Stengel’s 121st-minute goal secured a 2-1 win over top-seeded Kansas City. In the semifinal, Jaedyn Shaw’s free kick in the 97th minute lifted Gotham past Orlando 1-0.
Gotham has not lost outright in its last seven playoff matches, tying Washington’s league record. The team also holds a 1-0-2 record against the Spirit this season, with all three matches resulting in shutouts.
Washington advanced to its second straight final with a 2-0 win over the Portland Thorns, behind goals from Gift Monday and Croix Bethune. The Spirit, the No. 2 seed, are seeking their second league title.
Saturday’s final is the second postseason meeting between Gotham and Washington and their 16th encounter since 2022.
