Homicide Unit Investigating Fatal Shooting in Jersey City

In a tragic turn of events in Jersey City, what was initially reported as a shooting incident with two injured has escalated to a homicide investigation following the death of one of the victims.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Central Avenue and Bowers Street, sparking widespread concern in the community. The Jersey City Police Department, in coordination with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, is actively investigating the fatal shooting that took place on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

Details from the scene indicate that at around 9 p.m., authorities were alerted to shots being fired in the area. Officers who arrived on the scene found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were promptly transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.

Tragically, Freddie Posey, a 25-year-old resident of Jersey City, was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m. A 30-year-old woman from Jersey City was treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Further information has revealed a third victim, a 24-year-old male from Jersey City, who self-transported to University Hospital in Newark. His injuries are also not considered life-threatening.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with this incident.
