There’s a New Sheriff in Town

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis is projected to win the race for Hudson County Sheriff, defeating Republican Elvis Alvarez and independent candidate Justin Avishay in Tuesday’s general election.
With 46.68 percent of districts reporting, Davis secured 72.12 percent of the vote, totaling 71,687 ballots. Alvarez received 23,867 votes (24.01 percent), and Avishay received 3,526 votes (3.55 percent). Write-in candidates accounted for 322 votes.
Davis will now transition from leading the City of Bayonne to serving as Hudson County’s top law enforcement official. He previously won the Democratic primary earlier this year by unseating longtime Sheriff Frank Schillari.
The Hudson County Clerk’s Office will certify the final results in the coming days.
