Author Saadia Faruqi Visits McNair Academic to Celebrate New Ms. Marvel Novel

Students at McNair Academic High School welcomed author Saadia Faruqi on January 17 for a book talk and signing celebrating the release of Ms. Marvel: Remnants of the Past, her latest young adult novel published by Random House and Marvel.
Faruqi, a Pakistani American author and interfaith activist, spoke with students about the new book, which follows Jersey City’s own Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, on a quest from her hometown to Lahore, Pakistan. The story explores cultural identity and moral complexity through a superhero lens.
“Ms. Faruqi participated in an engaging conversation with her McNair audience, and held a book signing as well,” the district noted in a post.
Faruqi is the author of several children’s and young adult books, including The Strongest Heart, The Partition Project, and Saving Sunshine, and co-authored A Place at the Table. Her works have received numerous awards for their portrayal of Muslim and South Asian American experiences.
