Cosmo Cirillo Files to Run for West New York Mayor

Former West New York Commissioner Cosmo Cirillo has taken the first formal step toward running for mayor in May 2027, setting up a possible rematch with Mayor Albio Sires, Hudson County View reported.

Cirillo filed paperwork with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission on Wednesday, Oct. 21, according to the outlet.

Cirillo served as a West New York commissioner from 2015 to 2023. He now works as Guttenberg’s town administrator and East Newark’s borough clerk.

He ran against Sires in May 2023 and lost about 61% to 39%, with Sires’ full ticket sweeping. Sires, a former congressman and state Assembly speaker, was also mayor from 1995 to 2006.

Sires has not said whether he will run again, though allies expect him to, according to the outlet.
