NJ TRANSIT to Assume Bayonne Bus Route Abandoned by Broadway Bus Company

NJ TRANSIT will begin operating the No. 12 Broadway Route in Bayonne on December 1, following the abandonment of service by the Broadway Bus Company. The move ensures uninterrupted service for existing riders and continues NJ TRANSIT’s pattern of intervening when private carriers discontinue operations.

“This is another example of NJ TRANSIT’s stewardship and commitment to meeting the needs of our customers,” said NJ TRANSIT President and CEO Kris Kolluri. “I am extremely proud of the work our bus operations team has done to maximize existing resources to accommodate service on routes abandoned by private carriers.”

Although the new No. 12 Broadway Route will not replicate all stops previously served by Broadway Bus Company, NJ TRANSIT stated the revised route will offer more efficient coverage and better connections. Updated schedules and route details will be released in the coming weeks.

The Bayonne route marks the latest in a series of service accommodations made by NJ TRANSIT since 2023, when multiple private carriers began terminating contracts or ceasing operations.
