Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the Board of Commissioners presented a certificate to Maria Quintanilla at the commission meeting on May 22, 2019 officially naming her as North Bergen Senior of the Year.

Maria is a certified Housing Authority commissioner and currently serves as president of the Lawler Towers Tenant Association. A native of Cuba, she has been volunteering as an advocate for the senior residents in North Bergen for over 25 years.

Earlier this month, she was honored at an elegant luncheon in the Liberty House Restaurant in Jersey City, along with 11 other “Outstanding Seniors of the Year” from Hudson County, one from each municipality.

County Executive Thomas DeGise spoke about Maria at that event, calling her “caring and dedicated,” going on to say, “but those words to not describe how much Maria cares and the level of dedication she has in her goal to enhance the lives of her North Bergen senior neighbors.”

In addition to the township certificate, Maria received a citation from the State of New Jersey Senate and General Assembly in appreciation for her dedication and service.

Maria’s proud family attended the ceremony at town hall, where Mayor Sacco was joined by Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez, Assemblyman Pedro Mejia, Freeholder Anthony Vainieri, and the township commissioners for the presentation.
